Shopping is like dating. Before you find a winner, you have to wade through a whole lot of losers. Wouldn't it be great if there was like, some bar where every guy was totally hot, didn't have "mummy" issues, and could dance like the lead singer of CHK CHK CHK?
Walking into Bravery, Repetition and Noise is kinda like that blessed bar of your dreams: you're surrounded by choice cuts, and you're guaranteed to take home a winner. Lined up along one wall are DVDs by folks like Almodovar, Woody Allen, Russ Meyer, John Waters. The other wall's got smoking new CDs and vinyl ranging from doom to experimental, psychedelic to noise rock, post-rock to freak folk, electro, and of course, heaps of Brian Jonestown Massacre (who have an album entitled Bravery Repetition and Noise). Rather than limiting themselves to one niche or genre, the guys at BRN hand pick the best of the best, so you don't have to wade through reams of crap. This is what we call a "well-curated" store. Or a well-stocked bar, if you like. Located along the less-congested (and much more interesting) south end of King Street in Newtown, it's another worthwhile destination alongside Made, Faster Pussycat, and Shorties. Stop in sometime - you're guaranteed to pick-up.

TwoThousand is a subcultural guide to Sydney, published daily and fired by email weekly. It is compiled by an amorphous gaggle of Sydney writers, stylists, designers and photographers who all like huddling under that big umbrella we like to call creativity. Without editorial independence TwoThousand has nothing. All editorial you read is featured because it's worth it - not because it's paid for.
