Field Day… Meredith… Falls… Pub Sounds… Big Day Out… Laneway – the list of Summer music festivals is longer than Bjork’s plane ride from Iceland. But the biggest, and arguably the best festival to hit Sin City is the aptly named Sydney Festival 2008.
This is the festival that shows the others how it’s done by coercing Bjork to the Opera House, Tunng inside the Famous Spiegeltent, Sufjan Stevens into the State Theatre and Brian Wilson out of his chair.
A musical highlight of the crazy-good line-up is the Beck’s Festival Bar which has already cranked out Spank Rock as openers and Chromeo as a night two dessert. And it’s not over yet. Tomorrow night the bar is bashing out an FBi-sponsored Operator Please with Gameboy/Gamegirl and Girltalk, then comes psychedelic pop head Caribou on Jan 17 with support from locals Mountains in the Sky.
