I’ll take the brusCHEtta. “Certainly sir. The brusHEtta.” This happened – twice - so now I can never ever eat on Norton Street again. One must have principles. So where to for genuine Italian? Haberfield.

The suburb is so ‘authentically’ Italian that Eastern suburbs mums have to organise guided tours (really - see Saturday mornings for proof).

As a cucina freak and an ex-local, allow me to outline the one-breath itinerary for the Best of Haberfield: start with ristretto at Espresso Galleria, then sample stuffed cheeses at Paesanella; lock in a pastry lunch at Pasticceria Papa and follow it up with some Colefax Chocolate; grab a valpolicella from Haberfield Cellars and pair it with a magherita from La Disfida or a carnevale from Napoli In Bocca for the best pizza in Sydney; if you’re lucky, Sulfaro’s will still be open for biscotti and gelati. Breathe out.
