The Prince of Puke, John Waters, keeps the laughs rolling and stomachs churning with his just-released This Filthy World on DVD. Filmed over two nights at the Harry De Jur Playhouse in NYC, it is every Waters fan's idea of heaven - a one-man stand-up show of his obsessions in grand vaudevillian fashion.
Over the course of an hour, he gives insight into everything from his own childhood to ‘tea-bagging', artistic censorship, juvenile delinquents, pop-trash and so much more. It makes us dizzy even thinking about it.
It is easily one of the most entertaining commentaries in a while and a welcome relief after the handful of lackluster Waters films of late. What a relief to see he has definitely not lost it, as he effortlessly delivers the most delightfully shocking one-liners in a way that most stand-up comedians would envy.
Without a doubt, the infamous Divine shit-eating scene in Pink Flamingos may be his most memorable moment of cinematic garbage, but like the great man once said, "To me, bad taste is what entertainment is all about." And he readily complies with a refreshing torrent of vulgari
