It all started one day when I was listening to Stan Zamanek on the wireless. Stan stopped abusing the woman weeping on the other end of the line and, much to my suprise, started talking directly to me. He said "Michael, do you know about the Freemasons?". To which I replied "A little bit". He grew irate and yelled "I bloody expected as much from a worthless dole-bludging cripple!". I whimpered and tried to tell him I was none of the above, but at that moment was blinded by the TV, which had switched itself on and was beaming symbols at my brain - compasses, set-squares, pyramids, pentagons and - over and over again - an all seeing eye.
From that day forth I noticed these symbols everywhere: in the clouds, in the frothy mass of my morning Berocca, in the lint accumulating in my belly-button. Then, one day, whilst evading an FBI agent (who had been tailing me through Hyde Park), I stumbled across the Sydney Masonic Centre.
My heart beating wildly, I approached the girl at the desk and asked about the Museum mentioned on the sign out the front... "I can't really say, I haven't been up there for..." she stuttered before I cut her off. "Can't, or won't?!" I yelled as (laughing maniacally) I ran for the lift. The lift doors opened on Level 3, and there it was... all the proof I ever needed that the Freemasons were after me!
Seriously tho', this place is amazing. Rooms packed full of incredible trinkets, weapons and regalia, corridors lined with paintings of "Most Worshipful Brothers", a surprising amount of detailed historic documents and photographs, and all of it cloaked in the iconography and mysticism that has made the Freemasons the subject of delusions and conspiracy theories since the middle ages.
