With Christmas just around the corner, you need to start thinking about gifts. Lucky for you, we've found plaster painting. Mum loved it when you were five, so she's going to be really impressed this year...now that you've got a steady hand.

There's a huge selection of plasters to paint, like skulls, Jesus's head, mermaids and dragons. Those lacking imagination should look to the pre-painted plasters. But remember - these are painted by the masters, and it's harder than it looks.

Once you've chosen a plaster, you're given paints and brushes. They let you take as many brushes as you want, so make sure you get a fine one for detail.

You are allowed to sit outside to work and you can even paint your name on the table. Ladies come around quite regularly to change your water and cloths, and generally impart words of encouragement. When you are finished, they add glitter upon request and spray it with gloss. Grab a sausage sizzle from the markets while you wait for it to dry, then bam! Merry Christmas Mum.
