Having spent a staunchly inner west childhood, things north of the bridge are still an unfolding mystery to me. The discovery process was expedited some years back, when North Sydney became a synonym for becoming heavily pissed on Thursday nights at the various places tucked in that concrete jungle. Since then, adult tastes have brought a need for arguably healthier activities and it was this that led some friends to introduce Sawmillers Reserve. Hidden just down the road from the Blues Point Hotel is a little waterside park complete with shipwreck.
Its position nestled down on Berry's Bay provides an incredible vista across the harbour, and is handily serviced by the wine emporiums and delis of McMahon's Point, making it a nigh-on perfect harbourside picnic locale. It's all just so civilized, my dear.
