Picture this: it's past midnight, the commercials are starting to get tawdry and you're not keen on sinking your vessel or SMSing the word 'babe' anywhere. You switch over to the ABC in order to escape the urge to call in to a quiz show with a word that rhymes with "waste of money" and lo and behold Aunty's screening something better than PASSIONS! Perhaps the blood moon unleashed a beast within the programming department because there are two nights of glorious ‘70s British horror flicks to stay up late for this week.

I can do no better for THE MONSTER than quote the official internet summary, "a nightclub stripper (Joan Collins) is cursed by a dwarf...and she later gives birth to a murderous baby possessed by a demonic spirit." Stripper? Check. Curse? Check. Dwarf? Check. Murderous Baby? Murderous baby! Directed by infamous Hammer director Peter Sasdy (perhaps you're more familiar with his take on THE SECRET DIARY OF ADRIAN MOLE AGED 13), this film, also known as I DON'T WANT TO BE BORN, is a gory ROSEMARY'S-BABYsploitation worthy of a slumber party.

THE UNCANNY is no CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE, but it does involve evil supernatural cats. This film proposes that humans really are ruled by pussy. Which gives me great pause for thought - we're not really all just a dog's dream as a high Lindsey thought in an episode of FREAKS & GEEKS. It also makes me wonder, if felines are pulling the strings, what happens when they find out we've been ridiculing them on the internet with LOLCATS? Iz we gonna be Fancy Feats? So the sandwich and the doorbell weren't really invisible after all.
