HERE (EXCEPT IT’S IN FRENCH)
Everyone loves a French film. There’s something about the accent coupled with the anticipation of unexpected nudity that puts even the best of us on the edge of our seats. We can tell you now there’s no nudity in I DO, but there is an awkward scene involving love-toys and leather.
The romantic comedy follows hardened bachelor Luis (Alain Chabat), whose overbearing mother and sisters constantly pester him to find a wife. He decides to pay the sister of a friend, Emma (Charlotte Gainsbourg), if she’ll pretend to be his lover in order to silence the family tarts. Expectantly, plans go wrong, arguments are had and true love becomes a possibility.
Charlotte Gainsbourg’s presence alone makes this film worth seeing. Acting alongside Alain Chabat (re-united after both performed in SCIENCE OF SLEEP), her look and well-read manner make us want to learn French, for real this time. Sadly, her character is supposed to be a dirty, rogue-child without direction or sophistication. No one’s complaining though. She has the ability to turn even the most pedestrian of ‘rom-coms’ into a tantalising art film.
