We're a bit over Tropfest. The films are all pretty good, but by the time we actually get to see them, our bums are numb from sitting on drought-affected grass for hours, and we're usually too distracted by people pashing on the next rug to really appreciate the brilliant cinematic moments. And yes, there's always the DVD in the following weekend's paper, but really, who actually ends up watching it?
That's why we're rallying in favour of the Newtown Flicks Festival. It's spread over a weekend and films are grouped and screened according to genre, which means if you like comedies, that's all you have to watch (or dramas, or documentaries).
Plus there are tonnes of restaurants and bars in Newtown, which means no stopping at the supermarket or 7-Eleven on the way. You can even have a glass of wine without having to drink it from a brown paper bag. The only downside is that each session costs $10, but in return for that, you get an actual seat, not just a patch of lawn. Well worth it, if you ask us.
